If you popped over to enter to win my book, An Untroubled Heart, Welcome! I’ve been writing about fear the last few days. Today I’m on the last step of this series. If you struggle with fear, then I hope you will read the proceeding post and ask God to minister to your heart. If you havn’t read today’s devotion, The Truth About Fear, I encourage you to do so.
Also, if you don’t know my story, I invite you to click on “Micca’s Story” above and read the first chapter of, An Untroubled Heart. Widowed at the age of 21 paralyzed me with fear. But in the midst of my struggle, God began showing me His remedy for overcoming fear and living by faith.
Today I’m on Step Four: God Is With Us
It didn’t take me forty years to learn that I can accomplish more with God than on my own like it did for the Israelites. Thankfully, I learned to trust God and rely on His promises much faster than they did. It took trial and error, but for me, clinging to God’s care was all I had. And it was enough. It was more than enough. It was my Promise Land.
When the Israelites were fully ready to trust Him, God brought them back to the doorway of their Promised Land. There were no longer worried only about the enemies or the challenges they would face. Their primary concern was to accomplish what the Lord had given them to do.
I remember when that switch of concerned happened in my life. After I had learned to trust God to provide for my son and me, I had to follow that same pattern of trust in every area of my life. For example, when it came to public speaking I knew that clinging to my fear was not only holding me back, it was keeping me from obeying what God had called me to do. I think the reason behind my fear was this. What if I step out in faith and I fail? Have you ever felt that way?
Here’s what I’ve learned. God assumes full responsibility of my God-given dreams and goals. How do you and I know when a dream is God-given? It’s when the task is so big that if God doesn’t show up we ARE doomed to fail. God-given opportunities can only be accomplished by divine intervention!
God is the One who provides the resources I need to care for me and my son. God is the One who provides what I need to accomplish the tasks He assigns me. Do you remember what the Lord said to Joshua? “Have I not commanded your? Be strong and gorgeous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Josh 1:9).
Where has God assigned you to go? Hear the words of Joshua, agian. “The Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
With those words hidden in Joshua’s heart, he moved forward in faith and lead the Israelites into the Promise Land. Joshua’s confidence was established in the Lord. He had no reason to fear because he knew God would not fail.
Don’t let fear rob you of your dreams. Instead, choose faith over fear, confidence over self-assurance and trust over doubt, and you will gain victory.
