Are you Directionally Challenged like me? I still get lost driving around Nashville, and I’ve lived here my entire life. My sense of direction is so bad that my husband wanted to put one of those bands around my ankle that prisoners wear. That way if I get lost, he could locate me. Praise Jesus someone invented the GPS!
Sometimes, I can feel lost spiritually. With so many possible directions to take in life, it’s easy to become confused about which path to choose.
Over the years, I’ve learned that God’s intended course for me is not as confusing as I thought. All I needed was a spiritual compass.
Sounds good, right! However, the compass can’t provide me with details of the road ahead. It’s not like my GPS that tells me which road to take and when to make the turn. It doesn’t steer around obstacles or solve dilemmas. What the compass does do is point the way.
The elements of the compass indicate that God is leading you and me toward the right destination—the right choice or decision.
For example; when you have a dream that you can’t shake, that’s your spiritual compass indicating a call or a divine purpose to fulfill. The same principle is at work when you can’t get someone off your mind or you can’t let go of a need you heard about earlier in the week.
What if you have a huge decision to make. Maybe it’s about your job, buying a new home, or deciding where you’ll live. Your compass can point the way. After you give the decision considerable prayer, your compass will direct you with a sense of peace or the lack of peace. Peace is your “green light” to proceed forward. On the other hand, a lack of peace is also a sign on the compass. No peace means wait! Do not move forward, do not pass go or collect $200 dollars. With a lack of peace, your compass is directing you to wait.
I love it when my compass lets me know I’ve hit my sweet-spot!
Years ago, I decided to lead children’s church. I was passionate about God’s Word and I love to tell stories. I also like children. Therefore, teaching them about Jesus seemed like a no brainer. Let’s just say it was much hard than I had imagined.
All I ever wanted to do was changed their three-year-old lives! But between their short attention spans, potty breaks, and nose wiping, there wasn’t much teaching going on. I was more like a babysitter than a bible teacher. I began to lose my joy. Each Sunday became more difficult than the one before. My compass was indicating it was time to move on. Teaching children was obviously not my calling.
As I began teaching women the Word, things changed. I felt a sense of joy and purpose. I saw the women growing in their faith. And I knew. I knew I had hit my sweet-spot.
What about your spiritual compass? How is it directing you? It is pointing the way. Look for the indicators. Then, follow the path ahead.
Today, I ‘m giving away a message on CD, Piecing It All Together. Leave a comment to enter to win!!

Sometimes, well really a lot of the times I feel that way. I’ll be going along thinking I’ve really finally gotten it all together and then it hits. It seems like I’m lost, struggling on my own to find my way. But then God comes along and rescues me. Praide God for a loving Heavenly Father who doesn’t want us to be lost but to be along side of him, he’s guiding the way.
Heidi Lawhorn says
Thank you for sharing this message today. Your words spoke to my heart!

Our moods have “direction”, too. Too many times my mood goes in the wrong direction because of comments from other people. Your message today reminds me that I need to ask God for direction not only for my career and life path choices but also for my thoughts so that my feelings don’t head south.
Lisa Cullen says
Loved this read today! I am 46 and very new to learning about God and Jesus! I have been attending church for about 2 years now and last Sunday I was baptized! I am still struggling to hear God and understand his direction for my life. This was a fabulous read for me this morning!

Thank you for your devotion & post today. I’ve just finished a large project & now I’m struggling to know which direction to turn next. Thank you for reminding me we have the Holy Spirit who will be our compass.

Thanks for encouraging words in todays message, God’s spiritual compass.
I loved it and will begin thinking and praying I will use God’s compass more as i muddle my way through each day. My God continue to bless you.

Oh how I long to know…
Through many circumstances I’ve followed God. His leading was evident or He closed/opened doors. Longer down my road with HIM it feels like a puzzle with no picture, confusion.
Reading your devotional today, I had to stop and really try to hear where I felt HIS peace. I think I sometimes confuse the pressure of circumstances with lack of peace!
Thank you for giving me an example to think about…

This has been my struggle, I am always in too big of a hurry, I need to slow down and listen to God.
Kathy says
Ive been looking for God’s direction and looking for release from many stressful areas of life, while at the same time feeling guilty because I have a great life in countless ways. Last night as I prayed, I was reminded “Let not your heart be troubled” and then this morning I saw your book onProverbs31ministry. I look forward to God’s direction…I know it will come.
Lori Ann says
Thank you so much for this devotion today. . . I feel that God used you in my life this morning as part of His road map for today. I needed to be reminded that each decision we make does not have to be our burden, God wants to guide, teach and give counsel. I am passing this on to my college age daughter who is struggling with many things in life right now (even some beyond an average college student). We had a conversation this weekend about her wishing someone else could make decisions for her. . . well I’ve got good news for her! Thanks again Micca and may God bless you especially today. I am already signed up for Melissa’s next study and KNOW that this is another way that God is going to speak to my weary heart.
Teresa T. says
Dear Micca, Many years ago my life was almost destroyed by poor choices and bad relationships. I drifted far away from God and His desires for me. I am extreemly thankful that He used consequences that served as road map to lead me back to His loving arms! My prayer is that God will lovingly continue to direct my path by the power of His Holy Spirit! Thanks for the reminder! Be blessed!!!
Leigh F. says
I have been praying for 8 years about somehting and get very discouraged at times. Thank you for reminding me that God will direct my path.

Thank You for the devotion today!! It was just what I needed to hear. I am bad about Not waiting long enough for an answer and just either jumping in or assuming it is a “no” and moving on to the next fork in the road. This made me wonder what opportunities may have been missed along the way due to my incessant impatience. Now I hope to be better about tuning in to my compass- truely listenining and waiting patiently. Bless you for your voice on here.

Dear Micca,
Thank you for your God inspired words this AM. They have truly touched my spirit. As a Christian, this is always my biggest struggle. I want to do it all and where does God want me to be/do. Your words, just as Scripture, brought peace this AM and the sweet realization that my direction comes from Christ; it does not have to be as hard as I am making it! Thanks!

Thanks for your message. It reminded me to be still and let Him guide me. We are on the process of moving by this summer, yet we don’t know where we are moving to. It all depends on my husband’s job and on me to find one. Sometimes I get close to a second interview and God closes that door. I need to trust in Him that he will lead us in the right direction.
Janet W. says
Hi Micca!I would love to win your cd!
I’m not feeling very peaceful today for some reason, I’m actually feeling very frazzeled. I’m not one to have my devotion time in the mornings & I think that is the problem. I usually have mine at lunch time or evenings.
Blessings,
Janet W.

Thank you for this post today! As always, it comes at the most appropriate time in my life. I have just completed a very big volunteer effort that turned out so awesome, when just the week before, all looked bleak! I prayed my rosary specifically asking for success in our clinic and enjoyment for all the little girls that participated. My prayers were answered! Despite the stormy morning over 80 girls and parents came to our clinic on Saturday! It was wonderful! Now, I feel a calling to do more with this group and actually discussed with my husband my desire to get more involved. I truly feel that is the direction, at least for now, that my compass is guiding me!
Blessings to you today and thank you for the work you do with this Ministry. It is my lifeline!

Jennifer says
I know what my heart is telling me but I have no peace. I can’t quit my job even though I hate it, I want to be with my girls and take care of my family, husband included but I work for a large company and receive a nice salary and many benefits including the health insurance for the family. I am growing weary of waiting and the stress of my position and not enjoying my work is taking a toll on me physically. God point me in a direction I can take care of my family and still provide some what we need for income and health insurance. The sitting at my work desk crying is not working.
JODY says
Jennifer, try not to lose hope. God hears you & will point you. I know because I was were you are not that long ago. I pray for God’s peace to overflow in your life today, for strength to perserve on the road you are on and faith to continue trusting.

Thank you so much for following your calling and writing these words that have helped me today. Lately, I feel like I am in a fog, with no direction. Thank you for your post! I am struggling with waiting. I am not waiting in good faith. I do not want to wait. I am tired of waiting. I am ugly while I wait. I have no peace. I feel I am wasting my life. I want to know what to do while I am waiting. Your words reminded me that maybe God wants me to “wait”. I pray that he will show me how to do it gracefully.

Thank you for your words of encouragement today Micca, I have been following your blogs and have been deeply touched and encouraged by your story. Through your post today, truly the Lord has spoke and ministered to my heart and touched all those places I’ve been struggling with, refreshing me to remember to allow the Lord to be in the drivers seat of my life and circumstances.
As I read your post today I heard His still small voice minister to my heart a piece of scripture that has kept me focused on Him time and time again.
Be Still And Know that I Am God.
Psalm 46:10

I am so thankful for this ministry because I can read, talk and write to you as if I am talking directly to God without any third person which is hard for me to do in public for many reasons. Today, I feel refreshed in your word because I can face my past, present and future without feeling as a lost child but as a renewed child of God.
Thank you all for forgiving my mistakes and loving me for who I am.

It is so strange how God knows what we are needing. I am having such a hard time and don’t know which way to go. I have had such a hard time lately just getting myself out of bed and starting my day. Reading your story makes me realize that I need to put my life in God’s hands and let him show me the way. Thank you so much!!

I read your words and my heart goes out to you. I am praying for God to give you hope, joy and peace each new day. Sometimes, the joy is just around the corner. Don’t give up. Remember, “this too shall pass”.
God’s love to you today.
Stephanie says
Thanks for these insightful words. I just need to read my compass a little more often and stay on course for Christ.
Betty Monda says
I am still in the learning process of trying to find my way. Sometimes I think I know which way God is leading and then something happens that I have to ask myself, “did I not listen to what God was telling me?” “Did I act because I wanted this and this is not what God wanted?” This life is full of so many ups and downs and its so hard to know which way God is leading. So how do you truly know where God is leading you? You can pray and ask God to give you direction, and you think you know what it is and then it turns out it wasn’t the direction God wanted you to go. I know that god loves me and it is only by His grace that I am accepted as His child. It’s so hard discerning His directions at times. Got any answers?
Kris P. says
Thank you, I needed this.

God lead me here by no mistake today. In the midst of a major life event caused by my lack of faith in God’s direction I am turning my life back around. Your words have encouraged me and I know that God will bring good from my poor decisions! His compass is the only way.

My husband and I have been praying for 3 yrs asking God what he wants us to do next. We are still praying.

Your devotion from today hit close to home. I really do feel down these days
and you brought it to my attention why. I am not letting God direct me and I am trying to do it on my own. Thank you for the reminder and praise God for using you to help women in need. It’s comforting to know that we are not alone in our struggles. Thank you so much!
Danielle says
Thank You for the encouragement! I have so many thoughts that I would love to express but I will not express all.I think about peace which you are talking about and than I think about the times when God is taking us out of our comfort zone to grow stronger with Him. I think during those moments that’s where we are looking for a “feeling” of peace and not realizing God is calling us higher. This is the time God is planning to give us a greater peace than we had before. It is only until we come out of our comfort zone, we realize it was God plan to humble us and give us peace. ” Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. “-Deuteronomy 8:2-3. Sometimes to find peace from God we have to go through chaos.

Thank you for this post today. This is the first time I have visited your blog…I found my way here from your devo today at Proverbs 31 Ministries. This is just what I needed to hear today. Feeling very lost right now in our current situation. I know that God hears our prayers, but we are still waiting on our compass to direct us in what we are supposed to do. Waiting is hard, but on the other hand I know God is never late, but perfectly on time, every time. I find myself trying to handle it while I’m waiting on Him, and that never works. I find much hope in your website and read it often. I thank you for the time you put into it each and every day. I would appreciate my husband and I, especially my husband being lifted up in prayer today as we wait on our wonderful God to show us what is next in our venture.

Today I found my sweet spot. I have been fretting for the last few days. Grandson broke his leg, had to take a test, new dental partials, and decisioin to make changes. I finally remembered Jehovah, My Provider. It felt good, it sounded good, and I kept saying it mentally in my head. My sweet spot is exactly what you said in your message. He is there for me! I just have to accept that fact. I do not have to do anything to receive it – He did it for me willingly. Thanks for a terrific reminder.

Thank you for a great reminder that God has a plan and a “direction” for me and I need to keep my eyes on Him and off the circumstances around me. I have something I’m praying about and was reminded today to watch for signs from God that will direct me toward the answer I’m looking for.

I feel that i’m still waiting on what exactly God wants me to do. I’ve fallen off course for awhile, but have decided recently that I want to know, feel, see God’s presence. You’re story on God’s compass has made me wonder on some situations if that is God speaking to me on what direction/path to follow.
Megan says
I recently started receiving the Proverbs 31 Ministries daily devotion by email. Remarkably many have spoken directly to a situation I was dealing with right at that time. Today I sat to read your devotion ‘directionally challenged’ and to be honest I wondered what God could be speaking to me through you today as it didn’t seem to speak to me as others had. I got up from my reading to deal with my difficult toddler who was refusing to go to bed and returned to finish the devotion, picking up where I left off with the paragraph … ‘Whenever we need direction — whether it’s raising a strong-willed child, or … — God will faithfully provide the counsel we need’ And that was it – a burden has been lifted. Right when I needed it – exactly in the moment God spoke an incredible truth to me. And God will provide the direction. Thank-you!

Thank you for the great advice! I can think of some times in my life when I had the feeling that I should not go ahead with something, but I ignored it and regretted it. It sounds like it’s wise to pray about decisions and listen to what “your gut” tells you as long as it’s in line with God’s Word.

I have just gotten home from the hospital after having extremely painful cervical surgery. It is so easy to feel lost and alone while you are there. I could not use my phone well to get my devotions. How hard it was to feel loved and cared for. Now home a couple of days and getting my devotions. I think i have been to that gas station. Thank you for a chuckle and a reminder that no matter how i feel i am not alone on this path. Blessings to you.

Without a doubt joining Proverbs 31 Ministries is the best thing I have done in terms of spiritual growth. Receiving my daily proverbs via email is the best way to start any day. The daily readings have evoked a deeper spiritual awakening. I find myself reading the bible more often, searching for passages related to the topic for that day. I have been unemployed since Nov of 2012 and have been feeling very anxious. Even though I told myself I will trust in God, I hadn’t truly let go of my worry and anxiety. It was through numerous verses in the daily readings of Proverbs that I was finally able to let go and let God. It was amazing, encountering verses that felt as if God was speaking directly to me. I didn’t know what direction to take. Then I read Proverbs dated 2-6 Directionally Challenged and I knew and felt the worry and anxiety melt away. Last night I let go and truly placed my trust in God and today I was called from 2 different companies for job interviews. Wow how “GREAT IS GOD!”
Thank you Proverbs 31 Ministries!

So true! Recently I debated over a decision that I so much wanted to be a part of and decided to accept an invitation to assist on an Emmaus Walk. I tried to ignore the nagging reoccurring thought that the time commitment would invade my peace that God was restoring from recent events. Finally after looking to my husband for his advice, I let go of the offer and regretfully withdrew my plans to participate. The next day as I read my devotions, the decision had been confirmed in God’s Word … HIS timing, not mine! God is so good ALL the time. God bless you and your faithfulness to HIM.

Thank you for your encouraging words. Something I desperately needed to hear this day. I am struggling with this issue of masquerade and wondering who I really am down under it all. I want others to think I am a perfect mom, when in reality I feel I stink, I want others to think I have it all put together in my marriage, in my family, in my home etc. etc. For others to see my hurt would be terrible in my eyes. Thanks again,
