God Knows The Way

My husband was anxious to arrive at the park where our son and his team were about to play baseball. I had been to the park the previous day but my guidance didn’t seem to satisfy my husband. He kept looking for signs that pointed the way. Every few moments he would ask, “Are we near? Do I turn here?”

“No, I replied, keep straight and I’ll tell you when to turn.” Did that calm his anxiety? No! He continued to ask, “Are you sure we don’t turn here?”

Frustrated, I gave into his will. “Yes, turn here.” I said. He did only to find that the road didn’t lead to the baseball park at all. It was a dead-end.

“Why did you tell me to turn?” He asked.

“Because you wanted to turn!” I responded.

From that point on, he let me guide him to the park.

Don’t we do the same thing? Maps and road signs are helpful, but what’s better is someone who has been there before and knows the way.

No matter what kind of guidance we need, God has gone before us and know the best route.

I think sometimes we ask too little of God. We want a simple “yes” or “no” to our prayer. Maybe we think all we need is a short answer to our question or plea and we’ll be able to take if from there. But what’s better than that is having the Guide himself.

He’ll never lead us down the wrong path!

Verses That Guide

James 1:5
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Jeremiah 29:11
’For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

Proverbs 16:9
The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.

Psalm 25:12-
Who is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way he should choose.

John 16:13
”But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

Psalm 25:9He leads the humble in justice, And He teaches the humble His way.

John 14:16
” And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 2:6-9
For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, Guarding the paths of justice, And He preserves the way of His godly ones. Then you will discern righteousness and justice And equity and every good course.

I want to know if this post goes public, or if you are the only one that reads/sees it? I have a lot I want to share, but it may not be very encouraging, as I’m not doing very well today.

    Hi Mica,

I arrived at your blog on a path through ‘Encouragement for Today Devotions by Proverbs 31 Women” email. 😉 What a pleasant spot to arrive to after taking a detour of ‘awakeness’ in the middle of this cold, Autumn night. Thank you for sharing your heart lessons with us that we might find enouragement, as you have, on life’s journey. I appreciate & am inspired by your list of “Verses that Guide”.

The Lord has been placing Jeremiah 29:11 like marker stones along my path for the last week or so. He is letting me know that Yes, He is indeed with me Himself, guiding me, though I cannot see around the corner of this windy path He has set my feet upon. He has also reminded me of another verse He used in my journey that was along a very precarious path. It provided guidance as well as, assurance that I despratly needed in that fear-full & faith-building time.

“The LORD will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” ~ Isaiah 58:11

May the LORD bless you, your family & ministry. May your heart be ever JOY-Full though your path be difficult & unkown by you….after-all we really only “need” enough guidance for the next step…& the next & the next…as we hold the Hand that Comforts, Satisfies, Guides…

Please, let me know if I may pray for you as you enCourage & minister to others. <3
    Love Ya, Susie :)

I am so blessed to have read this devotional this morning which
Provided me with answers to questions and feelings I’ve been battling
The last few weeks regarding me being on the right path
And not having manipulated things for my personal
Agenda. I have been overwhelmed with doubt and fear
As I stuge with this rough road I’m traveling as my hubby and I
(Feeling led by God) relocated our family to Georgia. We
Practically left everything behind but the basic necessities.
We are now living in Griffin Georgia and things we thought would
Fall into place has still not happened. I am still unemployed, hubby
Has not been able to find a job in Georgia therefore He is
Still residing in NYC and working two flying jobs ( to support our
Family of 7). My kids are adjusting but still not happy with the idea
Of moving to the small town. I’ve just been battling this feeling that
If God said go then why is it so hard right now. We have been here
3 months thus far and God has been meetin our needs on every side,
I have my first interview on Tuesday the 30th In the social services field
And I was so trying to run from this field. I am also trying to reenrollminto graduate shool( regent university) to conmplete my masters degree
In Christian clinical mental health counseling and having difficulty
Completing the lengthy application process while also trackin down some
Of the people I need as a reference. I’m also a bit worried about
Havin to study for and take the GRE’s. I am a ball of God ease help me
Not to disappoint you by failing to complete the tasks you have placed
Into my hands or failing to play the wife, mother, daughter role as you have
Called me to do on a daily basis. In my heart I long to please my
Heaven father and I don’t want to mess up or choose unwisely.

Today this devotional reminded me to continue to ou my hope on
God and His word even if I can’t see what’s ahead, God can and He will
Lead me if I allow Him to do so. Thanks Mkcca for letting God use you in this time to be a blessing to me and others whom are in need of a Ramah word
    From God.

Hi there Micca. Thanks so much for today’s encouragement. It speaks volumes to my heart. I’m experiencing the worst storm in my life at the moment … a troubled marriage. I’m really struggling!!! I feel like giving up on my 23 year old marriage. However, after reading your message today, I feel that I really must hand my situation and struggles of insecurity over to God. He knows what’s best. He knows what my innermost fears are. Thank you for taking time to write these messages. May the Lord bless you and your ministry!

    • Cheryl says

Micca , I to am going through another storm in my life. I have been married for 25 + years and my husband decided he wanted to get separated out of the clear blue sky. It was shocking. On top of that has been having an affair which I thought would never been something I would deal with in my life! We have 3 children and he just walked out the door and has wiped his hands clean of any responsiblity here at home and with the kids. Obviously, they are older but that does not matter. I have turned it over to God and waiting to have him lead me down the path he has planned. It is such a very scary, sad time in my life. My sister told me about Proverbs 31 and feeling comfort and peace. I do feel God with me. Your message spoke to me and so grateful you shared. God is good!

  5. Maureen says

    Hi Micca,
Thank you for your time and effort you put into this ministry. It uplifts me. It is so easy to get off track even though I know it will not end well. I love God but trust is very hard for me as for many of us. I am going to write these Scriptures down and carry a different one with me as a easy access reminder. Thank you!
    Many Blessings,

  6. says

Good morning Micca, I popped over here after reading your devotional today! Thank you for the encouraging words. God has really been speaking to my heart about seeking wisdom, and what that looks like in some areas of my life so your devotional and blog post here both connected with me. I really appreciated the Bible verses at the end of you post too!

p.s. I love the title and cover of your book and would love to be entered to win!

  7. Susan says

It’s sometimes the only comfort available….knowing He has a plan. I only can pray to be patient and wait. Thank you for sharing with us. Decisions and waiting can be so very hard.

  8. Enoch okyere says

I thank you and God bless you. My sister called me and said that my mothers house help is angry and wants to live. I was very woried. My mother is 72 old, and her one leg armputated be’cos of diebetes. After reading your devotion, I know God is in control and it is well. Enoch, Ghana.

This is the second time I have come to your blog and you said “Leave a commitment” instead of leave a comment. I thought, why does she keep saying that? lol

Perhaps that wasn’t intentional on your part but it helped me.
God told me which “commitment” was burdening me, and troubling me.

  10. B.....anonymous says

Thank you for being obedient to the Lord. I’m going thru tough things right now & am wanting to be lead by God,
But I’m struggling with trying to take over & do what’s best by what I think. So the devotion & these scriptures keep me on looking at his good will for my life no matter what may come my way. These decisions involve my marriage & our children & moving that has to be done. I worry about finances & the outcome effects on each of us & our children. Its difficult to not fear the unknown. Need prayers to trust, trust & not fear, for direction. You are a blessing, thank you again.

  11. Beth says

I would love a copy of the book. I struggle with decisions & sometimes find it hard to discern God’s will. Also, although He has proven to me over & over in my life that His will is best, sometimes I still struggle with believing He has my best interest at heart, especially when I don’t understand or cant see “why”.

  12. says

I am new in my faith and have a wonderful friend who is introducing me to God through her and how he has been apart of her life. Struggling with medical issues all my life, I have felt alone and unworthy of God’s love. I am open and seeking him now on a daily basis but one of my questions was, “I don’t hear anything and how do I pray?” My commitment is to pray and really listen and seek answers to which path I should take with medical decisions and with my daily thoughts to achieve a sense of peace and love.

  13. says

Love your devotion this morning! I had the privilege of hearing your speak at She Speaks this year in your breakout session. As God starts to shape my own ministry in where He wants me I find myself still trying to work through some fears of past things in my life. Your book would be such an awesome resource to own. Hoping to win a copy and if not…I think it might just end up on my Christmas list 😉

  14. Jena Page says

Thank you for the reassurance today. I continue to struggle with events in my life and have leaned on Him so much more lately. Your words helped today. Thanks – Jena

  15. Meg C says

I have been suffering with migraine for many, many years. I had an experience with chronic migraine in 2006 that lasted only for a couple of months. However, they returned in May of 2011 with a vengeance and I have more times with migraines than without.

I have spent much of the last year angry, frustrated and depressed. Chronic Migraine has impacted my family, career, social, personal, and spiritual life. Despite my feelings, I have clung on to my faith. I’ve got downright ugly with God because I know he can take it. I started going to counseling and the last few weeks began praying and asking for prayers of acceptance of my illness. I have also asked how God wants to use my story.

Since I’ve switched gears from anger to acceptance devotions and nuggets of truth like this have been popping up all over the place. Thank you for sharing this story and for all of the scripture that supports why we sometimes must walk a harder path.

  16. Sally says

Thanks for this encouragement today. Sometimes it’s hard to see at the time that the path we’re on is indeed the right one, and that’s when we need to hold onto faith and trust God.

  17. Lisa K says

Micca, Thank you. This was sooo needed. Our God is an awesome God. He always knows when we need just the right word and today your written word was just what I needed.

  18. Polly Schneider says

Thanks for the encouraging words. I love all the scriptures you gave us. I praise the Lord for His grace and mercy He gives me every day. I want to take more time and be quiet so I can hear God ‘s voice.

  19. says

A sweet friend of mine, who has heard you speak at a conference, sent me to your site (or more so, your book) as she knows I’m working on trusting God despite a disappointment. Your book sounds very encouraging, and I would love to win a copy.

  20. lauren says

Thank you for the devotion today regarding the decision about your daughter. It reached out to me concerning fears i have and the anxiouness that comes with those fears. I am going to print out these verses . I want to have these close to my reach so when I begin to feel the fear of my future I can read the verses and begin to memorize them.

  21. Angie says

Thank you and to God be the glory! I love how God answers always, your reading today and the scriptures are a reminder to me that when I try to carry the burden, God is near. This is confirmation to me, after speaking to my spiritual mentor last night this is what she mentioned…. “when you feel lonely and sad, distressed. God is so much closer thank you think”
Love you God and love Micca.
    God knows the way =)

  22. says

Sometimes God leads us to look for encouragement. Today I found some encouragement in your post. I am a new consultant in Mary Kay and want to use my business to reach other ladies to tell them what God has done for me and what he can do for them… I have always wanted to be a director and have my own group of women to nuture.. I must wait on God’s timing and his guidance to get to where he is leading me…..

    Jeremiah 29:11 –
’For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

  23. Stephanie Kilgore says

Thank you, I am struggling with the paths I have taken and if it is the Lord’s will. The Scripture lets me know that He will show me the way! Thanks!

  24. Indy Carreño Peña says

Thanks for being a servant of our Lord and take courage to speak to others about Him and His marvelous works. I don’t know if I can be part of the giveaways since I’m in Monterrey, Mexico but I just wanted to let you know that God is using you in great ways! :)

  25. says

Loved your devotion today Micca!! Praying for your healing and therapy. Miss you!! Life here with Aster has been full-time or I would have hopped in my car and come to take care of you!! {I’ll try to call to check on you soon!} Love you!!

  26. Rhonda says

Thank you so much! Words that I needed to hear for confirmation in my walk toward my ‘purpose.’
In years past, I have chosen so many wrong roads, turns and ended up at dead ends, cul de sacs or lost.
In my rededication to Christ and His purpose for Me, I am careful now when I (emphasis on I) want to ‘turn my left or right blinker on’ before He tells me to.
Thank you so much for what you do. You may never know how many lives you touch, but know mine is one of them. Perseverence! God Bless!

  27. Marge says

Thank you for your encouragement and these verses. I’m keeping a copy so that I’ll have them when I need them.

  28. Ann Johnson says

Thank you for these encouraging words and guidance scriptures that come at a perfect time!
I am always seeking God’s direction regarding many things in my life and there are many in my family desperately seeking God’s hand to direct them down the path He has chosen for them!
He is faithful and will not disappoint us!

  29. Angela says

Micca – Thank you so very much for your devotional. My cousin was in a motorcycle wreck on October 10. He has had multiple surgeries and has multiple surgeries more to endure. Your devotion touched me, especially this part, “Maybe this road is about learning something new about God or ourselves. Could it be the difficult journey is the path that prepares us for a greater purpose or a greater faith in God?”

  30. Anita says

The last two years God has been trying to teach me to let him lead. I went thru a time where I was trying to get guardianship of my grandkids. It was a long road but I know now that he had to do it his way to get me where I am today. Thou it took so long it was well worth the wait for he knows best.

  31. says

I was blessed to read your devotional this morning. Thank you for allowing God to use you and your talent with words to remind his children “that He is always there!”

  32. Ginger Bennett says

Thank you for all of your encouragement! I didn’t even realize that I needed it! My daughter is now suffering with the same thing your daughter had. She’s been on daily antibiotics for over a year now. This has helped me to push the inevitable into the far corners of my mind. I know that worrying won’t do any good, but the fact of the matter is that eventually some decision will probably have to be made. When that happens I hope that I can be as strong as you were! I’d love to know what exactly they did to help your daughter. I’m so glad it worked out for her!!

  33. Connie says

Micha, your book comes at a perfect time in my life. My 18 year old daughter just graduated from high school, and will be getting married in January. We are so proud of her, and we love her fiance’. Fear has plagued me my entire life, and with this new change, I am praying that the Lord will help me see the positives of my daughter’s new life changes, and not the fears of her leaving home. Thank you for all you do to encourage women all around the world.

  34. Kellie Hoskins says

Micca – your devotional today really spoke to me. I really needed it today. Thanks so much for the Verses that Guide. I am going to print them off and share them with my daughter.

  35. Wendy says

Thank you for your devotion. I am praying for wisdom as I have been in a somewhat troubling situation for about 7 months. I have so many blessings, and if this situation doesn’t have something positive happen, it will be more of a setback than anything else. I just had hopes, as we all do, and now don’t see those materializing. I would love to win your book!

  36. Carol says

I would love to have your book. Your post today is exactly what I needed and have been trying to walk out this week. I have been going through a really hard time. Thank you for all that you do and for the reminder of these verses.

Thankyou for insightful and encouraging post. Some of the Bible verses are already ones I have hidden in my heart <3 God is SO GOOD!

  39. Aleshia Howard says

Thank you for your encouraging words, they were great to hear! It was a good reminder. So often we ask God for his direction, only to try to go our own way. I am so thankful that he has gone before us and if we let him he will direct our paths!

  40. Alanna Huber says

God bless you for being obedient to Him. The encouragement that you give is needed so much in today’s world. I have been wanting a copy of your book for a long time now. Winning one would be a great blessing to me.

  41. Tara Mullin says

I needed those words on letting God guide our path. I am going to re-read them, over and over. Thank you for your ministry. God Bless You.

  42. clb says

Oh, if we could just do what’s best for us & totally leave it in God’s hands instead of clinging onto the edge of our problems….so we can help. As if our Lord needs any help! Would like to give this book to a relative that’s going thru deep waters, and it will be good to give them another prospective then just mine.

  43. says

Oh how I needed to read this devotional today. I am on a long and winding road and I feel clueless in my direction. I am raising 6 children and two of them are adopted with special needs. I often wonder why there isn’t an easier route or how long will it be difficult? Fear can literally grip my heart. I have often thought about your book from time to time. Maybe this is my time.

Blessings on you. I desperately needed this encouragement today.

  44. Tracy says

Thank you so much for today’s devotional. I’ve been grumpy about my road the past couple of days, and needed to hear that I’m not traveling alone, and that my path is the one I should be on.

  45. Renee Johnson says

Pick me Pick me pick me… I have so much going on in my life right now not sure where to start but I am in need of an “Untoubled Heart” …feels like my heart is twisted and pulled…please pick me!!!!

  46. Julie says

I appreciated your devotional. I’m one of those people whol ikes to have everything planned out, and know exactly where I’m going and what I’m going to do. It’s hard to trust God when I want to be in control! I appreciated the reminder that He knows what He’s doing (obviously!) and will never lead me astray. :)

  47. TAMMY says

I needed to hear those sweet, sweet words of encouragement today. I needed to hear that God knows the pain, the frustration, the fear of the unknown. I had a very hard day yesterday and things just didn’t go the way I hoped. We ran out of propane at home, my brakes are grinding, my husband is driving on a bad tire, and now I need a new battery, and did I mention I don’t get paid until Tuesday and then still that money is all accounted for with none left over. It was just too much to handle at one time and I got mad…even at God. Instead of going to him, I pouted and grumbled. But, then I read those words…”that God knows”…I don’t even have to speak them, “He knows”. How awesome is that! It felt like He wrapped His arms around me and said it’s okay. I cannot wait for the day when I can wrap my arms around Him and tell Him how much He means to me! So, instead of focussing on everything that is falling apart, I’m going to focus on Him and count my blessings!

  48. Bree says

I’ve been struggling to find a job and found comfort in your words and encouraging verses. I completely identified with your statement, “Maybe this road is about learning something new about God or ourselves.” During this time of unemployment, my relationship with the Lord has drastically grown and for that I’m grateful. Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy of your book.

  49. says

He’ll never lead us down the wrong path!!! That is so awesome…because lately I feel that there is change coming, and if anyone knows me they know that I hate change. But I can embrace it, because I know God will never lead me the wrong direction and if I am following Him, then all will be well, even if all is not comfortable.

  50. Josie says

Thank you for this wonderful devotion, both of them actually! You listed my life verse here and it is Proverbs 3:5-6!! It has been my most cherished verse since I became a Christian!! I also thank you for the reminder that God goes before us, needed that so much today!
    Thank you and God Bless!!

  51. Susan K says

Once again, a great devotional at just the right time! I needed this today.

Glad to hear your daughter is doing well!

  52. Elizabeth says

What a great reminder today to get out of God’s way, so to speak. I have a hard time with that and I would imagine I’m not alone. LOL So glad to know all went with your daughter. Praise God! And, of course, I would love to win your book!

  53. Beth says

Thank you for these words of encouragement. They are just what I needed today. The Proverbs verses especially calmed my heart. God always puts what I need in front of me–if only I would keep my eyes focused on him.

  54. Jenn says

Thank you for sharing. Faith: surrender to allow God to lead, rather than trying to control. Trusting God in the midst of chaos and pain can be difficult. But He is Faithful and Good to protect and lead us.

  55. Jeni W says

A dear friend of mine shared your Long and Winding Road story on FaceBook today and the words just reached out and grabbed me. It was exactly what I needed and exactly the right time. It was a prayer answered. I know for a fact it was our amazing heavenly Father that led me to that answer. I was able to dry my tears and realize with certainty that God is with me and I am on the path that I need to be even though there is an easier one I could take. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

  56. Jackie Smith says

Micca, your post is always just what I need to hear! Thanks for being such a blessing to all. Would love to win your book!

  57. Heidi says

God works in wonderful ways! Your devotional spoke to me, had God speak to me…my husband was diagnosed with Stage 2 pancreatic cancer last week. It has been a dark and sad week. Chemo starts Monday. Pray for him. Thank you for passing along God’s hope and His strength.

    Hi Micca,

Thank you for your great devo today, I shared it with my son who is going through a hard time (hope he reads it). It encouraged me a lot too as my life right now is not what I had planned but I guess God has other plans for me. I am still blessed so much so I know I shouldn’t complain but have to keep trusting in the Lord that all will be for me and my family’s good.

Thanks so much and may God bless you greatly.

  61. Maureen W says

I stuggle with trusting God with my special needs son and knowing the right thing to do for him. I would love to have your book. Thank you!

  62. says

I loved your post today on guidance! I had just started a Bible study on this very subject this week. So, your scriptures are so meaningful to me!I would loveto win your book!

Up at 5:55am on a Saturday morning and read your devotion. Thank you, Lord, for guiding me to this. Would love to read more.

  64. Michelle says

I, like many others on this page, am experiencing one of the greatest and longest trials of my young life. A troubled marriage, two year separation, unemployment and raising two very young girls as a single, yet married, mother. I find that when fear comes my way, which it often does, I need to be equipped with God’s Word. By spending time daily in the Bible and journaling, God is healing my heart and my family. We serve a mighty God indeed.

  65. Betty says

Oh My Goodness…..After reading all of these comments, I thought Dear Lord we are all so hurting and certainly me included so instead of adding my “hurt” to this I feel the need to pray…even though at this time in my life I don’t understand what God does with those prayers and most times “feel” like they fall on deaf ears but it is by faith that I pray….

Dear Jesus…. You KNOW ever hurt and praise that was talked about here. I ask that you now touch every heart and circumstance of each of these precious people, wash over their “wounds” with your “healing balm” and give each of us clarity for the next step of our journey. Give us a “fresh” touch of your love for us and open our “spiritual eyes and hearts” to be able to accept it

  66. Michelle says

    I love this post.
As a co-dependent adult I always want to say which `path` to take.
Not wanting to wait on His directions. Even tho He knows best.

  67. Diana says

    Dear Micca,

Thank you for your God-inspired message today. I was deeply moved by it. I am going through a very painful period in my mind where I feel the need to just separate myself from a situation I am in. Your devotional has given me new insights into my situation and I am going to leave it with God and allow Him to just chose the path I should follow from hereon. After all He loves me more and He knows where I am and what He wants to accomplish through me. Please pray for me.

Micca, Thanks for this post. Proverbs 3:5-6 are the Promises I fall to so many times. Every day actually. I am so thankful He has gone ahead of me and I never have to lead on my own understanding. I’d be in a lot of trouble if that were the case. Praying you are healing fast and that therapy is not too hard.

Enjoyed the verses on guidance. They were especially appropriate for me because my son and daughter are in high school and need God’s guidance in the years to come. God Bless!
