Is God Real?
My daughter asked me a question Wednesday. “What are some facts that God is real?” And that question made me think of you and your prayer request. Many of you are troubled over health issues, marriage problems, loss of loved ones and those you love bound by drugs. I have prayed for each of you just as you have prayed for one another. Thank you for that.
I realize that it made not seem like a connection to all of you, but I felt if we really knew that God was real it would encourage us to pray more fervent for our troubles. It would strengthen us in the wait. It would build our faith, and we may allow peace to settle in our hearts.
God is real. But there are no “facts” to give you. This is why for generations brainy people have tried to prove or disprove God’s existence. The Lord is much LARGER and MARVELOUS than that. The bible says,
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isa 55:8-9).
God may not have left us facts, but He left us thousands of clues.
Take nature for example. Right now, we’re in the fall season. The leaves are falling and soon the trees will go doormat as if they’re dead. But in the Spring, new life buds afresh. The air is fragrant with scents of spring flowers. Trees are dressed again in shades of green. There are signs of life everywhere.
This is a great picture of Christ’s death and resurrection. It’s also a beautiful picture of our death and resurrection as Believers. Like nature, created by God, we will blossom (live) again in a whole new way.
Our new life in heaven is much like the butterfly. At first the butterfly is nothing more than an ugly caterpillar enjoying life as he knows it. The caterpillar spends most of his time eating. (I think we might be cousins.) Then, the larva wraps itself in a protective shield called a cocoon. Inside it’s shield transformation is taking place. At the right time, when the transition is done, it burst through a new creation! It’s a beautiful butterfly.
Likewise, Believers experience transformation. First, this takes place when we come to Christ, and second after death. The bible says when we confess Christ as Savior and Lord, our old self dies (the self that loves to follow it’s fleshly desires and is in bondage to sin.) When we turn from sin and turn toward Christ, our sins are forgiven and we become a new creation. Becoming a new creation is a process where we are being transformed into the likeness of Christ!
Then one day we’ll die physically. A new transformation takes place. We leave our old bodies behind and we’ll be given a new body like Jesus’ after his resurrection.
Too good to be true? Sadly for some it is. In our world, seeing is believing; In God’s economy, believing is seeing. If you want to know if God is real, open your eyes to His creation.
Nature isn’t the only way of knowing God is real. Believers know God is real because they have His peace. They have His daily presence guiding them through life. They have an intimate relationship built on trust and obedience. They have answered prayers, forgiveness and the promise of eternal life. It’s like the old hymn goes…
“Because he lives
I can face tomorrow
Because he lives
All fear is gone
Because I know
He holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because he lives.”
I hope you’ve been encouraged today. God is real. He is able. He is faithful to your needs. Take a moment to mediate on these words. Then, talk to God- praise Him for His glorious signs that point to the realness of an awesome God!

Micca,
Thank you sooo much for the wonderful message you gave at Grace Baptist on Sunday night, Sept. 29. Oh how hearts were touched and lives changed, I just know it. We will see more evidence as we hear the news coming to us about how your testimony brought women to see how much they need Jesus. May God continue to bless you and use you for his glory!
