Who is the God of the Bible?
That’s a good question. God is so large, it’s hard for us to wrap our minds around his nature. Below is a list of facts about God’s character and heart. As you read, pause on the attribute that speaks most to your need today. Call out to God by that name. Then rest in the truth of who God is.
- God is eternal. (Deuteronomy 33:27; Jeremiah 10:10; Psalm 90:2)
- God is infinite. (1 Kings 8:22-27; Jeremiah 23:24; Psalm 102:25-27; Revelation 22:13)
- God is self-sufficient and self-existent. (Exodus 3:13-14; Psalm 50:10-12; Colossians 1:16)
- God is omnipresent (present everywhere). (Psalm 139:7-12)
- God is omnipotent (all powerful). (Genesis 18:14; Luke 18:27; Revelation 19:6)
- God is omniscient (all knowing). (Psalm 139:2-6; Isaiah 40:13-14)
- God is unchanging or immutable. (Psalm 102:25-27; Hebrews 1:10-12; 13:8)
- God is sovereign. (2 Samuel 7:22; Isaiah 46:9-11)
- God is wise. (Proverbs 3:19; Romans 16:26-27; 1 Timothy 1:17)
- God is holy. (Leviticus 19:2; 1 Peter 1:15)
- God is righteous and just. (Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 11:7; Psalm 119:137)
- God is faithful. (Deuteronomy 7:9; Psalm 89:1-8)
God is true and truth. (Psalm 31:5; John 14:6; John 17:3; Titus 1:1-2)
- God is good. (Psalm 25:8; Psalm 34:8; Mark 10:18)
- God is merciful. (Deuteronomy 4:31; Psalm 103:8-17; Daniel 9:9; Hebrews 2:17)
- God is gracious. (Exodus 34:6; Psalm 103:8; 1 Peter 5:10)
- God is love. (John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:8)
- God is spirit. (John 4:24)
- God is light. (James 1:17; 1 John 1:5)
God is triune or trinity. (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

This is exactly what I needed today! I am going to print this so that I have it to refer to any time I need it! I contracted Lyme disease in 2011. It literally dropped me to the ground and I became 100% dependent on others to care for me. It has been a complete life changing disease to deal with. HOWEVER, it has also changed my relationship with God 100% also! I always “believed” in God, but didn’t have a relationship with him. After becoming sick, I really had no one to turn to but God to help me get through the darkest period of my life. Today I KNOW God loves me, is taking care of me, is leading me, guides me, and I KNOW his will is being done in my life. He has also healed my body back to about 90% of normal. I still deal with symptoms of Lyme disease, but am back to functioning, and able to care for my family again. I praise God and am so thankful for my life! I have been wanting to get this Bible, and would love to be chosen to receive it! Thank you so much!
Jolene Martin says
Wow! Who God is…..I know sometimes I lose sight of this when in the midst…but God is my everything! Would love to have this bible
Halona Luna says
I need a new bible. I recently gave mine to a friend who did not have one because God told me to help her.
Brandie says
Oh how I needed this! I have lost my way completely and I’m having a very hard time finding my way back. If I don’t win, could I just get a prayer please? Thank you!
Carol says
Brandie – Praying for you! I had lost my way completely but He is so good to lovingly come after His lost sheep to bring you back. Just by being on this website tells me you are looking for Him. I know from my own experience how hard it is to make the choice to let go of all the things the (fallen) world screams into your head as what you should do and to listen to His whisper of how much He loves you and is there for you. He is not a God of condemnation but one of conviction. So, take His conviction and walk into His light – take the condemnation of the enemy and tell him to flee from you! I pray you feel His presence and His guidance.
Cindy says
Thanks Carol! I like your statement, “He is not a God of condemnation, but one of conviction.” Yes! What a good reminder! Praying for Brandie. Reach your hand up to Jesus and Your Father God. They will uphold you with their strong, everlasting arms. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

God is Faithful: “Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.” (Deuteronomy 7:9 NLT) – I LOVE that word “lavishes”!! “Bestow something in generous or extravagant quantities upon.” He doesn’t just live us, He lavishes is with His love and unlike human, earthly love, His love is unfailing, never-ending. WOW! Hard to wrap my mind around that in its entirety but my God is an awesome God indeed!

I’ve been wanting something like this. I am currently a stay at home mom. we just moved to Cali from Missouri. While my husband’s family is here, I don’t have any friends here. The idea of God staying faithful to me is important in this season of life to me

I have just recently found you, yet you live in my area, Sumner County! I have truly enjoyed following your blog and facebook posts. You are truly a blessing and an inspiration. As a school teacher, a mom who just sent her baby off to college, and soon to be divorced, I believe this devo would be most helpful. However, I pray whoever gets it is the one God would have receive it.

Thank You for making this possible for someone who might be in need for it right now. Thanks to Proverbs 31 Ministry for the outreach each day to all women all over the World. Wow, what a great idea! This Bible looks awesome! I would love a Bible like this. Yesterday I received a letter from the IRS telling me I owed them them close to $4,000. I went to my bank today to try and correct the error. A former colleague was the person assisting me. She commented on how calm I was for receiving such a letter. I told her that I knew it was an error but I also knew God was in control of everything. What peace it brings knowing he goes before be, beside me, and behind me. Nothing can separate me from his love. I am so grateful!

Amen! I’m a mother of two under 4 and lately these daily devotionals have helped me get through my day with more patience and appreciation. Nice little reminder’s that God is there for me all day long, for everything. Not just the big stuff, but the day to day trials and joys of being a parent.

To meditate on who God is, is a strength for all ,especially women who are desperate to do things right and run so many errands that at the end of the day there is no one to go to except God. So the list is sure an encouragement for me & to many others who read this. May God bless all your efforts!

Interesting I found this today as I am looking for a new Bible. Struggling with keeping my old standby — hard to change but yet yearning for that as well. I love your daily messages and admit there are days I skip over them and yet there are many days they speak right to me. THANK You
Andi says
Thank you…needed this today!
Ashley Fields says
I needed to read this today! A friend (my best friend actually) pointed out some things in my life that need to change and while she spoke in love, her words both convicted and stung. After getting over the initial defensiveness (always a sign that you need to look deeper!) and the hurt, I realized that I don’t trust God like I should. If I did, I wouldn’t be as unwilling to step out in faith and “face the music,” to use a term from another Proverbs 31 blog from today. For those who read this, please pray for me as I face and conquer a fear that is keeping me from enjoying freedom, independence and, most of important of all, God’s blessings! Thank you!

Micca once again you posted a devotional that I so needed….My husband and I went on a much needed vacation, we left Wednesday night and we were due home Monday…..We got a call early this morning that our 17 year old daughter, thru a massive party at our house last night..and the police raided it…..My heart sank, I didn’t know whether to scream or cry,, I was so angry…when I talked to her she said “what is the problem, no ones hurt, no one got arrested, no one is in the hospital and there’s only minimal damage to the window screens, where kids were jumping out of..I wanted to find the perspective in that, but I couldnt..We came home found 8 kids still in our house, and it was a disaster….but true she was safe, they were all safe. Thank God my husband and I had calmed down already, in the quiet of the ride, we were both praying. When she tried to tell us that “it was all good” I yelled at the top of my lungs “How can it be good when you all disrespected our home”…..’God’s home’…There was complete silence, you could hear a pin drop. Needles to say we asked them all to leave and she left with them…….After the clean up and some repairs, I read your post…..God is Good, merciful, gracious, loving, faithful, and I so need Him right now…We don’t know what to do anymore with our child…but this is in His hands, only He knows where this will go….Thank You Anna…..

Thank you so much for sharing. Often times when we are faced with struggles in our every day life we tend to forget the faithfulness and the promises of our God. Not only have I had to ask who is the God of the Bible? But, who is God in my life? I have found him to be just and true to His word. In this season of my life, I find that I need to speak it and declare it. Thank you for sharing and I am going to print this out and place it in my journal.
Misty Foster says
Thank you for this wonderful reminder. Knowing God is gracious always speaks to my heart. In the hustle and bustle of life, in the ups and downs, in the hard trials of life and the beautiful days of abundance, God is gracious in each one. His grace is something I continually seek to emulate. I want to be a woman of grace! I want to be a woman who He looks at and says, “Yes, faithful one, My grace is sufficient for you and your grace blesses My heart.”

I was so touched by the title, “Living the Bible”. I am 67 and have had many, many bibles & interpretations. But, the word Living jumped right out at me & spoke to my heart. Reading the Word, memorizing it is so important, but I hear God saying “It’s time to “Live the Bible. Praying I, or whoever needs it most wins!

Good Morning!
This is a good Morning as I’ve done my devotion for today and know that in all our trials in life our LORD never leaves us or forsakes us.
I’ve lost my parents, daughter-in law, daughter (murdered),and two brothers he has given me the strength to live on. For I know what my future is, To live is Christ but to die is gain.

I was just thinking this past week about how long I’ve had the Bible I use. I have had it since my parents gave it to me in 7th grade! I’m going to be 40 this December. It would be wonderful to have a devotional guide and Bible all in one.
