Before resuming our scheduled topic on overcoming pain, I’d like to interrupt today’s post in order to share about my very crazy yesterday.
It started out at the chiropractor. My youngest son, Parker, hurt his back last week in basketball as he went up for a layup. I find it amusing that he played an entire football season without injury but basket ball has taken down this six-foot, two hundred pound man-child. (Oh, speaking of football… Can this proud mom brag for a second? My son made All-county for his position in football!! Whoo-hoo!! Go Parker!)
Anyhoo, last Friday morning, I awoke with a leg cramp. Have you ever had that happen? It will definitely wake you up!
Monday morning, I figured since Parker and I was at the chiropractor’s, I’d ask the doctor to take a look at my leg. At this point, I had been in pain all weekend and usually the pain caused by a cramp is gone in a day or two. Upon examining my painful, swollen leg, the doctor thought I had a blood clot and suggested that I call my primary physician.
A blood clot isn’t something you can wait on. If you do have one, it can quickly move to your lungs or heart causing a stroke, heart attack or death. I had no choice but to call my doctor who sent me to the hospital for an ultrasound.
After a lonnnnnnnng wait, I’m happy to announce there was NO blood clot! Praise Jesus. What I have is a severely strained muscle—which I got it from a leg cramp. Sad, I know. I’m telling everyone else I did it while Mountain climbing. The worst part is it cost me hundreds of dollars yesterday to find out I have a strained muscle!
To make matters worse, on the way home from the hospital I found myself in the middle of a drive-by-shooting! I’m NOT kidding, y’all!
Since I hadn’t planned on spending the day at the hospital, I didn’t eat breakfast. I was released at 2:00 that afternoon. Starving, I went to McDonald’s. I was in a section of downtown Nashville that’s not all that safe so I went through the drive-thru. As I was about to pay the guy in the window, a beat-up old car pulled up beside me and started cursing at the McDonalds employee. He cursed back. At first, I thought it was a joke. I figured they knew each other. But when the guy in the car said, “come out here and say that and I’ll put a bullet in your head,” I knew it was serious!
Unfortunately, I was trapped. Not only was I trapped in the middle of a fight, but there was a car in front of me and one behind me, too. I quickly called my husband at work. He answered the phone… “I’m in a meeting, let me call you back.” Click. I’m thinking… REALLY??? Is this really happening to me?!
Finally, I said to the employee in the window, “Y’all are scaring me!!!!!!!!!!” About that time, the car sped off-still mouthing threats and obscenities. The McDonald’s employee did apologized to me over and over as he TOOK MY MONEY for my chicken sandwich!! He should have given it to me for free! If I hadn’t of been in shock, I would have insisted on a free chicken sandwich. …what a day!
Some days are like that. They just stink. I’d love to read about one of your worst days. Feel free to share! Then, let’s eat some big chocolate gooey something. Desert always calms my nerves.

That’s scary! Glad you’re ok.
On another note, I just finished your book. You were able to put on paper some of my same thoughts and feelings. Thank you for being a conduit for God to work through.
